Why study abroad?
Everyone has different reasons for studying abroad. Few people would turn down the opportunity to eat delicious, authentic foods like Italian carbonara. But why you should study abroad isn't just about the photos on your TikTok or IG account, the food, or even a nice line on your resume; it's much more about self-discovery and identity.
5 reasons why you should study abroad
-
Broaden your horizons: Living in a foreign country exposes you to different customs, experiences, and ways of doing things. You can learn a lot about how other people see the world and reevaluate your own perspective.
-
Become fluent in another language: Most of us can't become fluent in a foreign language by spending a few hours a week in a classroom. Fluency comes from diving headfirst into the language and forcing yourself to speak as much as possible.
-
Make friends across the globe: Schools often have active international student organizations, so you'll meet people from all over the world. The friendships you make during your college years often last a lifetime, and studying abroad is no different. Plus, filmaking is a great way to work with others and challenge yourself.
-
Connect with your heritage: If you're curious about your ancestry, studying abroad can be a great way to connect with your family's past. Learn where you came from, study the language, and maybe even track down distant relatives.
-
Challenge yourself: Studying abroad means actually living in a foreign country instead of taking a long vacation. It's not necessarily easy, but growth comes from putting yourself in uncomfortable situations. If you make the committment, you'll find yourself growing before you return home.
